Starting in February, our third, fourth, and fifth graders began a unit of study on Matter in Science class. Students began by learning the definition of matter before diving deeper into the different states of matter, molecules, and changes in matter. Students have become matter “detectives” by finding examples of both Matter and Non-Matter in our own classroom! We are working through a combination of different instructional practices which includes whole-group note taking, working with partners, review games, and even acting out the movement and structure of the different states of matter. Students are enthusiastic and showing great progress in understanding the world around us and why “Matter, matters!”
