Students in grades 5-8 participated in a Digital Literacy class this year. Just as students have to learn how to be citizens of our world, country, community, school, and family, this class taught students how to be responsible and safe citizens of the digital world. We covered many topics that included: how to find balance with digital media use, how to protect yourself from phishing and scams, how to chat safely online, de-escalating digital drama, how to find credible information online, how companies collect and use data on you, what a digital footprint is, how to protect your digital footprint, and the pros and cons of AI. As a culminating class activity we watch the documentary The Social Dilemma.
