Adrian, Caelum, Arcadya and Cora were part of a book club reading Alexander McCall Smith’s Akimbo and the Elephants. Children were assigned to read a chapter of the book each week. Some children read independently, and others read out loud to a teacher. In class we learned about the parts of a book; finding the dedication page, the copyright date, and the contents page. Another class focused on character development learning about both interior and exterior traits. More recently we are identifying key moments in each chapter and will be putting them in sequence to help us identify the story arc, identifying the climax of the story and its resolution. It is our hope the children will want to read many of the other books in this charming series.
