After exploring microscopes, students moved on to genetics. Students learned about Gregor Mendal and the genetics he discovered in his garden with yellow and green peas. By doing surveys and questionnaires, students explored traits of themselves and their classmates. While learning about traits, heredity, dominant and recessive genes and pundit squares, students explored the idea of inherited traits along with phenotypes and genotypes. While writing and reading pundit squares, students learned the difference between how to note dominant and recessive genes and how to read the square and make claims about the findings. An exciting part of our class was testing PTC paper and seeing who was a taster and who tasted nothing at all!
