Students in grades 4-8 learned about forces and bridges during science class lead by our student teacher, Alexandra. They learned what load, compression, and tension is. As well, they learned about three main types of bridges-arch, suspension, and beam bridge. Words like balance and engineer were reviewed/taught. Students learned about why there are different types of bridges (their purpose) and how the different types of bridges work to balance the forces. At the end of the unit, students were tasked with designing a bridge for a specific situation and then being able to explain why they chose that bridge and how the forces are balanced.
