While we were preparing for a mock trial on the 1969 Tinkercase, the oldest students explored music and poetry that changed the world! As we listened and read songs by John Lennon, Bob Dylan, Marvin Gaye and Sam Cooke we asked ourselves ‘What is a lyric?” “How are lyrics the same or different to poetry?” What were these musicians trying to say with their songs? Lyrics are just one way we exercise our right to freedom of speech. Then each student was asked to bring to school and share one song with lyrics that moved them to think about something important, that changed the way they thought about something and aimed to make the world a better place.
